To say that these past few weeks have been stressful is a total understatement. I have been purposeful in checking in with friends and family, making sure that everyone’s been doing well, and also taking time to check on myself and show myself a little love. I have shared a few times before that I am a medical social worker but I fully acknowledge that not a lot of people know what that is or even realize that I work in a hospital. Basically, I am responsible for getting patients home or to a facility so sicker patients can have a bed in the hospital. So the stress and pressure has been on high recently.
Luckily for me, the last few days I have been decompressing at home. I had some time off for trips that like many of you got canceled or postponed. So instead of giving my time back I decided to take my time off and practice some self care.
Given that many of you are at home working and managing family, relationships, and a new found way of life I wanted to share some things that have helped keep me in a good head space, productive, and accepting things as they come.
Making to-do lists
To-do lists are my go to but they are really essential right now. With a lot of free time in the house it can be easy to do any and everything and end up actually doing nothing. Making a list always keeps me focused when I need to be. It also helps me get ideas out of my head which is a huge stress reliever.
Create a schedule
I know, I know. Just hear me out. Making a schedule makes sure that you are not overworking yourself. It also makes sure that you have time for other stress-relieving activities so that you maintain your peace of mind. The key is that you don’t go too ambitious. Don’t put something on your schedule that you know you aren’t about to do (i.e. that home workout that you have been watching for 2 years, just sayin’).
Take an online class
I have been seeing ad after ad about online classes you can take from so many different places. I bit the bullet and FINALLY subscribed to Masterclass. Game changer! When I tell you I have been more inspired, more motivated and more driven I am so ready for what is next. All I have to say is get ready for post-quarantine Ashli!
Pamper yourself
When I am stressed my skin turns into a pre-teen adolecents skin and it is nowhere near cute. So pampering yourself is almost a necessity in my book. I don’t care if it’s a facial mask, a relaxing bath or simply shaving your legs you need to do it! Plus this gives you a chance to use those products you bought but haven’t cracked open yet.
Hopefully these have given you some ideas to stay grounded and stay sane during #quarantinelife. Stay safe love!
